Directives aux auteurs-es

ARTICLES:

  • In order to be considered for publication in JCACS, submissions must be concerned explicitly with some aspect of curriculum studies in Canada.
  • Manuscripts are to be submitted via the online submission system on the JCACS website. Manuscripts will be accepted in English or French as a Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) document file. Note that JCACS does not have article submission or processing charges.
  • Manuscripts are to be typed, double-spaced, and in a 12-point sans-serif font (such as Arial or Calibri). Manuscript should be between 3,500 and 5,000 words, not including references or abstract, and variances to the count should be confirmed with the editor. Please include page numbers in the top right corner.
  • Authors should ensure that all content that could identify them, and therefore bias the review process, is removed from their manuscript. Content found in the text or in the references that could identify the authors should be replaced with the word “Author(s).”
  • Abstracts should be 200 words maximum and should be placed in the manuscript above the article, in addition to being submitted using the online submission form on the JCACS website.
  • Labelled tables, figures and images should be placed within the text at appropriate points. Each table and figure should have a stand-alone descriptive title that explains its purpose without reference to the text; each table column should have an appropriate heading. Alternative text descriptions should be provided for each visual element, such as an image, text box or figure.
  • Engage footnotes where necessary to amplify the text, but place all works cited at the end of the manuscript, in a section entitled “References”. All citations and references should conform to APA Format, 7th Edition.
  • Contributors should be aware that JCACS engages its own style convention, which is based on Canadian Style and APA 7, a summary of which is available upon request.
  • All submissions will be subject to an initial review by the editors. Only articles that meet the stated publishing criteria will be subject to further review. The editors will rely on the reviewers’ suggestions, but they will not necessarily be bound by them. All accepted articles will undergo an internal review and editing process, with the editing team, that includes both substantive (developmental) and line editing, to ensure that the manuscript accords with JCACS’s mandate in terms of substantive content and quality, that it is free of content or copyright errors, and that it conforms to our journal’s style guidelines regarding conventions of grammar, spelling and punctuation and regarding the attribution and citation of other works. The editors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to refuse to publish an article or to retract it.

BOOK REVIEWS:

Following the mandate of the journal, JCACS invites submissions in both French and English that engage the work of curriculum scholars and others whose work speaks to the dilemmas and concerns of curriculum studies for a Canadian and international readership. We particularly encourage reviews of new work by Canadian curriculum scholars. Reviews are expected to provoke lively, respectful and critical discussions, with substantiated arguments or opinions, which might expand the boundaries of curriculum studies and/or engage this field with relevant questions. We welcome submissions that consider the structures of teaching and learning in a variety of curricular settings and narrative formats, including film, literature and digital media. Reviews for single books/media are typically 2,000-2,500 words in length, while review essays, that may consider a single theme or critical conversation amongst several texts, may range from 2,500-3,500 words. Proposals for potential reviews may be sent to JCACS Editors, jcacs@lakeheadu.ca. Completed reviews are submitted via the online submission system on the JCACS website.
